Become a Trustee

The NCCF

The NCCF was created to help the most vulnerable British Nuclear Test Veterans and their descendants. Over the years the NCCF has developed an understanding of the issues and needs of our Nuclear Community, and created the Care Wellbeing and Inclusion Fund to directly reduce suffering and increase wellbeing. We remain a non-campaigning apolitical organisation who’s primary aim is to help the Nuclear Community. More details on the history of the organisation can be found at http://thenccf.org/about-us/

Trustees

The NCCF currently has a good representation of trustees from within the beneficiary pool of veterans and descendants. We are looking to recruit people with broader experience or those who may be keen to develop their abilities and knowledge within the charity sector. A diverse board of trustees will enable us to increase the range and scope of our activities going forwards.

Basic Conditions of Trusteeship

A full explanation of what being a trustee entails can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-essential-trustee-what-you-need-to-know-cc3 but the basic conditions are:

  • You must be at least 16 years old to be a trustee of the NCCF CIO
  • You must be properly appointed following the procedures and any restrictions in the charity’s governing document
  • The initial appointment is for three years subject to review following the initial twelve months
You must not act as a trustee if you are disqualified unless authorised to do so by a waiver from the Charities Commission. The reasons for disqualification are shown in the disqualifying reasons table and include:

  • Being bankrupt (undischarged) or having an individual voluntary arrangement (IVA)
  • Having an unspent conviction for certain offences (including any that involve dishonesty or deception)
  • Being on the sex offenders’ register

Commitment

Every quarter we have virtual meetings and at least one physical meet up and activities at least once per year. All day to day activities are conducted online by our primary contractor. The total time commitment of the average NCCF trustee is two to three hours a month. Some trustees undertake roles like managing the finances or running specific projects and they give more time to the charity.

All trustees are provided with training and a laptop to enable them to undertake their charitable duties. The NCCF are keen to support any trustees who wish to further develop their knowledge and experience in the charity sector.

Trustee positions are all voluntary but expenses are paid for travel / accommodation and food when necessary.

Trustees are appointed for 3 years subject to review after an initial 12 months.
